WELCOME
I’m glad you are here….
We all have a natural ability to feel happy, grow, heal, and connect with others. But sometimes, unexpected things happen that can interfere with this process and make us feel distressed, sick, and unhappy. No one should have to go through these struggles alone.
“We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.”
- Carl Rogers
“I have come to the conclusion that human beings are born with an innate capacity to triumph over trauma….In so doing, we will significantly increase our ability to achieve both our individual and collective dreams.”
- Peter A. Levine
NICOLAIS CUYLE
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
I support people who are stuck in “survival mode” due to past experiences, difficult relationships, or dynamics in their life that increase anxiety, worry, stress and overwhelm. These experiences often take a toll on their overall health and can negatively affect their sense of well-being over time.
I help people overcome these challenges, discover their true potential, and build confidence to thrive! I take the time to understand each person deeply; so we can work together to expand self-awareness, reinforce emotional safety, enhance strengths, improve security in relationships, boost confidence, and encourage authenticity.

COMMON CONCERNS
I specialize in working with individuals and couples, using evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities such as Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Gottman Method perspectives.
I have vast experience helping teenagers navigate and overcome the various difficulties they face. Supporting parents is also a major part of supporting children and teenagers. Therefore, I also work with parents and families. My work with parents and families helps reinforce skills, boost confidence, and improve understanding and connection during these, often, tumultous years.
If you find yourself needing support, or are experiencing any aspect of the concerns listed here, I am happy to schedule a consult to discuss recommendations and assess how I may be able to help.

Traumatic events can occur throughout a person’s lifespan, ranging from mild to severe. These experiences can have lasting effects, even after the event itself has passed. After a traumatic or highly stressful event, individuals may experience heightened fear and anxiety, increased anger and aggressive behavior, and difficulty sleeping. They might also dissociate, have flashbacks, feel guilty, have low self-esteem, avoid situations, be hyper-vigilant, and exhibit other intrusive behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. Fortunately, there are treatment approaches that can help individuals manage and resolve these traumatic and stressor-related issues. Through therapeutic intervention and learning effective coping strategies, individuals can find greater satisfaction in their lives and relationships.

Anxiety, a common yet manageable emotion. It can be a valuable tool for avoiding perilous or distressing situations. However, some individuals grapple with anxiety more intensely than others. Often, those struggling with anxiety and worry find themselves excessively concerned about the well-being of others, perpetually fearing catastrophic events, or ruminating on the worst-case scenario of any given situation. When these concerns become overwhelming and unchecked, our anxious thoughts and emotions can spiral out of control - significantly impacting our lives and relationships.
Several common anxiety disorders include social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, and generalized anxiety disorder. If left untreated, these struggles can persist, leading to behavioral disturbances and other complications. Excessive anxiety can be incredibly challenging to manage and can severely diminish the joy and happiness one experiences in their personal and professional life. Fortunately, therapeutic intervention offers a promising path to reducing intrusive anxiety and helps support a more balanced and fulfilling existence.

Do you experience more sad days than not? Do you find yourself losing motivation and interest in things you once enjoyed? Among other symptoms, people who experience depression report an increased presence of sad, empty, or irritable moods. They may experience decreased motivation and pleasure in activities they once found enjoyable and may also experience physical and cognitive changes that interfere with their daily life, self-relationship, and relationships with others. Clinical depression can significantly impact various aspects of an individual’s life and can lead to escalating feelings of depression. If left untreated, it becomes quite challenging to break free from the cycle of depression symptoms. However, clinical intervention can provide individuals with the tools and guidance to navigate through these thoughts and feelings. By increasing awareness of depressed thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and actively working to change thought patterns that contribute to depression, individuals can enhance their ability to experience a reduced sense of depression and lead fulfilling lives.

Relational Stress refers to the emotional and psychological tension that arises from conflicts or negative interactions in relationships. This type of stress commonly occurs in close relationships, such as romantic partnerships, familial connections, or friendships, where individuals may experience disagreements, poor communication, difficulties with boundaries, and lack of resolution surrounding important issues.
Characteristics of Relational Stress include feelings of frustration, resentment, or disappointment towards oneself or another person. It can manifest through various forms of behavior, including avoidance, criticism, defensiveness, stonewalling, or contempt. Such relational dynamics contribute to a cycle of conflict that can erode trust and intimacy over time.
The impact of this stress can extend beyond the immediate relationship, affecting individuals’ overall well-being and mental health. Symptoms may include anxiety, depression, loneliness, decreased self-esteem, guilt, and physical health problems.
Addressing Relational Stress often involves effective communication strategies, conflict resolution skills, boundary awareness, and skill-building. By understanding the underlying issues and working towards constructive solutions, individuals can mitigate this stress and foster healthier relational dynamics.
